Some of you may recall (unless you’re as lost as we are right now) that not too long ago Microsoft received a “Statement of Objections” from the European Commission regarding the Xbox ActiBlizz Agreement. That statement basically included a bunch of things the commission wants to change in order for the deal to go ahead, and now Microsoft has revealed it will attend a hearing in an EU court next week.
Via Reuters, Microsoft is expected to respond to these EU objections on February 21. Naturally, we don’t know the details of what Microsoft will present to the audience, but we’re very curious to see if the company will pull off this European showdown.
Here in the UK, the CMA recently put forward their own suggestions for how Xbox could potentially change the shape of the deal. The UK authority has split these into two categories: ‘structural remedies’ and ‘behavioural remedies’, but either are only suggestions at this time and the UK investigation is still ongoing.
In any case, we shouldn’t have to wait too long for these conclusions from the EU, as long as the result of the hearing is made public shortly afterwards. For now, the next ActiBlizz-related confrontation is scheduled for February 21 in the EU courts.
