Microsoft yesterday signed another 10-year deal with the “Boosteroid” cloud platform, similar to the 10-year deals it struck with Nintendo and Nvidia for Call of Duty.
Apparently Sony’s offer is still on the table, but it seems to have stalled altogether. In a small update via a Wall Street Journal article, Microsoft President Brad Smith revealed that there are currently no discussions between the two parties.
Microsoft previously made a similar offer to Sony Group Corp., the most prominent critic of the planned deal with Activision. Mr Smith said the companies have not reached a formal agreement and are not currently in talks. »
president of microsoft @BradSmi of @WSJ that Microsoft is not currently in talks with Sony for a Call of Duty deal. Microsoft is also preparing similar 10-year Call of Duty deals with other companies in the coming weeks Tom Warren (@tomwarren) March 14, 2023
As The Verge editor Tom Warren pointed out, Microsoft apparently has similar deals in the works.
This latest update follows claims from Activision Blizzard communications director Lulu Cheng Meservey last week about why Sony continues to turn down the Call of Duty offer. On his own, SIE CEO Jim Ryan just wants to block the acquisition.
“The Director General of SIE answered this question in Brussels. In his words: “I don’t want a new Call of Duty deal. I just want to block their merger.”
