A recent rumor reduces the possible release date of the sequel to Metro Exodus. This report comes just weeks after 4A Games made the Exodus Engine SDK free for modders, while reaffirming that the new Metro game is still in development.
The fourth installment of the famous FPS franchise based on the best-selling Metro 2033 by Russian author Dmitry Glukhovsky took at least three years to prepare. 4A Games initially confirmed its existence in 2020, but has since provided very little information about the project.
The last real official news on the title dates back to that original communication, when the studio said the new Metro game would be a multiplayer experience.
According to Spanish YouTuber eXtas1s, citing industry sources, the Metro Exodus sequel has progressed quite well since then and is now in a fully playable state. If we take that statement at face value, the timing of this leak makes sense, because when a playable pre-alpha build is reached, that’s when the developers usually start doing extensive game testing.
This task is often outsourced, but even when it is not, it requires the involvement of more people, which increases the likelihood of breaches.
In any case, this turn of events suggests that the game could be released in 2024, the report concludes.
