As usual, analyst Mat Piscatella took advantage of the month of April to take stock of video game sales in the United States. And little surprise, when we take a closer look at these figures we discover that one of Nintendo’s flagship productions has set a new record.
The Mario Kart saga has continued to make history by offering players excellent video game experiences and constantly breaking new records. Currently the best-selling racing game of all time is none other than Mario Kart Wii. But today, it is not this episode that interests us, but the last episode of this same license, namely Mario Kart 8.
According to Mat Piscatella, NPD Group analyst Mario Kart 8 – by that we mean Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe together – put on a historic new performance. Indeed, Nintendo’s production featuring the famous mustached plumber becomes the best-selling racing game in US history, surpassing the previous record set by Mario Kart Wii.

Unfortunately, we don’t yet know the exact sales figures for the title released on Wii U in 2014 and Nintendo Switch in 2017, but as of September 30, 2020, Mario Kart 8 (the Wii U version) had sold more than 8.45 million units worldwide, and as of December 31, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (the Nintendo Switch version) had sold a total of 33.41 million copies.
