A Lego Donkey Kong set is on the way as part of “more adventures, exciting characters and new worlds”.
Promoted throughout the week on Lego’s social media and announced via its MAR10 feed (opens in a new tab), Lego Donkey Kong is about the same size as Lego Mario himself. However, unlike other Lego Super Mario games, he can carry minifigures on his back.
While nothing else has been revealed for Lego Donkey Kong, it would be fair to assume it will come in its own starter set (just like Lego Mario, Luigi or Peach) with a modular terrain to run around in, collectibles, and enemies to fight. And it is certainly possible. However, it should be noted that it is not an electronic figure like those included in previous starter sets, at least not on initial inspection – the eyes appear painted rather than digital. With that in mind, it might end up looking more like an expansion in the vein of Peach’s Castle or Yoshi’s House, designed specifically for their use. con Lego Super Mario rather than anything else. This certainly follows the official press release calling him a “welcome new character to the Lego Super Mario universe.”

Speaking of expansions, another was introduced at the start of Lego’s MAR10 stream: Lego Dry Bowser Castle Battle. It weighs $109.99 straight from Lego (opens in a new tab) or £94.99 (opens in a new tab) in the UK, and comes in 1,321 pieces. It seems to replace the old Bowser’s Castle (opens in a new tab) which is now retired.
This new set contains many hidden secrets (including the ability for Mario to “train” with the dumbbells) and includes five minifigures in total: Dry Bowser, Magmaargh, Bone Piranha Plant, Bone Goomba and Purple Toad.
This kit will be added to the best Lego sets from August 1st.
If you want to catch up on the series to date, you can save some cash along the way in Best Buy’s MAR10 sale – you can currently save up to $50 (opens in a new tab) on any range. Just be sure to be quick; many sets are already sold.
