Cradles, an MMORPG with a different take on its game business model, announced plans to hold a two-week open beta in March. Starting March 15, players will be able to explore the world and battle dinosaurs.!
The opportunity to apply for beta seats for Cradles opens on March 1 and will run until March 10. Look for an opportunity to get a slot on your Discord server. We do not have details on how many places will be open. But since it’s called an open beta, let’s hope access won’t be too difficult!
This MMO promises player-driven creation and a unique NFT betting system. Cradles will be a subscription service, so this beta may be one of your rare chances to try the game for free.
The beta itself will only be open for two weeks, until March 30. Cradles capped off its previous pre-alpha test with a massive Battle Royale PvP event, awarding rewards to top players. They say they are planning some kind of equally remarkable event at the end of the open beta.
crib talking points
Cradles brings a feature to web2 games that we haven’t seen yet in the MMO genre of web3 games, monthly subscriptions! And with a starting price of $99 per month, I wonder if this particular feature might not have been better left out. Unfortunately, by setting up a monthly subscription and for such a high price, Cradles is firmly putting itself in a position where it will just be a winnable game.
What are Cradles?
Cradles is an MMORPG that takes place in a world co-inhabited by humans and dinosaurs and features a living world that grows and evolves over time.
Cradles includes a main town center that functions as a marketplace and social scene. Outside the city there are adventure zones. Here players explore, fight with prehistoric beasts, and collect materials for crafting. The Adventure Zones will represent different lost eras in Earth’s history. And of course, more dangerous areas offer more lucrative rewards!
In Cradles, players acquire equipment, crystals, Civilization Flames. Players use Civilization Flames to ignite beacon towers, giving the player’s favorite civilization a boost.
Crystals are the primary currency in the game. They are used to upgrade weapons, strengthen equipment, and perform repairs. The crystals will exist as their own blockchain token. Players earn crystals from daily quests and crystal mines.
Interestingly, Cradles has decided not to sell any NFTs! Instead, they will focus on the value of their token (DRPC or DRepublic Coin) and let players decide which NFTs are worth trading. Players will have access to a crafting feature, which will allow them to use materials collected from Adventure Zones to craft gear.
Nurseries will also have some sort of NFT staking/rental system and passive income options.
Like many other Web3 games, Cradles has big plans. These include a quest system, player governance, player-created experiences, land ownership, Chaos attacks on major cities, and more!
