E3 2021, which would be held at the Convention Center in Los Angeles, is canceled.
Last year was not a very good period for everyone. Due to the pandemic, many face-to-face events had to be canceled and one of them was the biggest annual video game event, E3. The outlook is not looking very encouraging for this year and it seems it is a matter of time for ESA to confirm that E3 2021 will have the same fate.
After the cancellation of the face-to-face and virtual E3 in 2020, the 2021 edition was planned to start on June 15, which promised to be a reinvented version of the traditional event, which would end a few days later, on June 17.
At that time the venue had not been revealed, but today it is known that it would take place again at the Los Angeles Convention Center; however, information has just come to light revealing that the event was again canceled.
Unfortunately, the pandemic has changed the plans of the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) again, since the situation is not yet ideal to re-organize this type of mass events again.
Although the association has not confirmed the news, official information from the Board of Commissioners of the Los Angeles Convention and Tourism Development Department reveals in a part of an 84-page document that E3 2021, which would be held at the Convention Center in Los Angeles, is canceled.
E3 2021 WOULD TAKE PLACE, BUT WITH SOME CHANGES
This does not come as a surprise if we consider that the situation around the pandemic has not improved much.
However, not everything is bad news, since the document also mentions that it would be working with the production team to opt for transmission alternatives at the Los Angeles Convention Center and LA Live, which would confirm a previous report that indicated that ESA would be preparing a digital alternative which it referred to as the “E3 Experience”.
Likewise, the document confirms that the city council is already working with the ESA on the licenses for the 2022 and 2023 editions, which hopefully can already be carried out in a conventional way, once the effects of the pandemic disappear. Let us remember that the association had mentioned their wishes to return.
Although this information has not been confirmed by the ESA, everything indicates that this year again there will be no face-to-face event.
We say this not only because of the record that has just come to light, but also because details appeared a few days ago that indicate that ESA would be preparing to offer a virtual event with several participating companies , after in 2020 it completely canceled the event. We will keep you informed.
