If you’re playing Hogwarts Legacy on PC with an Xbox controller, you better check your Steam screenshots folder. It may already be filled to the brim with unwanted screenshots.
Sometimes games are plagued with critical bugs, often preventing the game; its impact on the game can be noticed almost immediately. Sometimes, however, imperfections remain hidden for a long time, doing their job somewhere in the background. Such a story happened to one of the Hogwarts Legacy fans. In a popular Reddit thread, a frustrated gamer complained about Steam, which, Avalanche Software takes unexpected in-game screenshots whenever the gamepad or analog buttons are used. The problem turned out to be very serious, because the user accumulated nearly 30,000 unwanted screenshots, which together took up to 13 GB of space on your disk.
The thread piqued the curiosity of other users, including those who had a similar problem. Gamers quickly ruled out mistakenly rearranging a key combination responsible for taking a screenshot – it can be set for gaming on keyboard and mouse (the default is F12). There were suggestions to disable the Steam overlay or complete the game without using a controller.

In the end, the cause of the problem turned out to be a separate Steam system that is activated when using the gamepad. It has around 20 permanently assigned hotkeys, including, for example, to control the volume or take screenshots. The savior turned out to download and configure the driver through a tool called Xbox Accessories – The official app from Microsoft. It should be noted that this is only a workaround for the bug; most likely, the developers themselves will fix it in the future.
