As you explore Hogwarts in Hogwarts Legacy, several locked doors will block your path and prevent you from accessing certain areas of the game. These locations will not remain locked forever, but it is difficult and unclear how unlock them. Here’s what you need to know about how to unlock locked doors in Hogwarts Legacy.
How to Pick Locks in Hogwarts Legacy
The only way to unlock a locked door in Hogwarts Legacy is to learn Alohomora. This is an unlock spell that you can learn by playing the game. However, it is not a spell that you can expect to find until you go further in the game. Alohomora will become available after completing the first test with Ancient Magic and the arrival of Autumn at Hogwarts.
Several teachers will have new assignments for you in the fall, and Hogwarts Warden Gladwin Moon will ask to see your character. They have a task for you, and Hogwarts Legacy offers you a quest called The Caretaker’s Lunar Lament. You will need to complete this quest if you want to learn Alohomora. Other than progressing through the game, there’s no way for you to get to this point, so we recommend proceeding as you naturally would and focusing on leveling up your character. A requirement for this quest is to make sure your character is at least level 14.
When you receive the Alohomora spell, you will need to complete a mini-game when trying to unlock the locked door. You need to line up the inner lock until it starts moving and the second gear until the lower right gears start moving. Once they are both moving, hold it down for a few seconds, then the lock will open and you can walk through the locked door.
