The Marunweem Ruins are one of the southern locations you can find in Hogwarts Legacy, and like many in the game, there’s a Merlin Trial nearby to solve. The puzzle in this trial is a moonstone pillar, which allows you to collect various nearby glowing butterflies flying around the area and bring them to specific stones. Tracking these butterflies can be tricky. Here’s what you need to know about how to solve Merlin’s Trial at the Marunweem Ruins in Hogwarts Legacy.

When you activate Merlin’s Trial, a glowing stone will be in front of you, with several butterflies to the north.

You’ll need to drag the moths from the north to the first glowing pillar like the moth puzzles you’ve likely encountered at Hogwarts and various story quests.

Several more butterflies will be northeast of the first moonstone pillar, surrounding a previously lit campfire.

Catch those butterflies and head south where you’ll find the next Moonstone Pillar. You don’t need to stop using Lumos for the butterflies to connect to the pillar.

The last butterflies will be harder to find. You’ll need to head southeast of the starting location and see them floating past a wizard statue. Head to the slope and use Lumos to steer them away from that spot.
