In Hogwarts Legacy, completing Merlin’s Trials is essential if you want to expand your inventory and get more slots for your gear collection. There is no other way to get more team slots than by completing stages in the “Complete Trials of Merlin” challenge. Legend has it that Merlin himself created the tests when he himself was a Slytherin student at Hogwarts. Luckily, there are plenty of Trials of Merlin – challenges that require you to solve puzzles using your magic spells – scattered across the Hogwarts Legacy map, but some are easier than others. One of the most difficult Merlin Trials is in the southern area of Hogwarts, immediately south of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

In this Trial of Merlin, your objective is to put a large stone sphere (or ball) into a circular stone hole. The large stone ball is located a short distance southwest of the Merlin Trial marker, and the circular stone alcove is at the bottom of the cliff by the lake, southeast of the large stone ball .

The best spell for this Merlin Trial (and others like it) is Wingardium Leviosa, but you can also use force spells like Accio, Depulso, Descendo, and Flipendo to move the ball around. Since the circular stone hole is much lower than the starting position of the big stone ball, you can also use gravity (this is the name of a law of physics, not the name of a spell) to bring the ball to its target. It’s more difficult (although maybe more fun) this way.

Unlike most of the other Trials of Merlin, this one has only one objective, so once you place that big stone sphere in that circular stone alcove, the Trial of Merlin is complete and you bring you closer to a larger inventory.
