Unopened chests litter the winding hallways of Hogwarts Legacy. Often these containers contain a variety of resources, such as gold coins and valuable equipment, which you can use to strengthen your character. Unfortunately, there will be times when you open a chest only to receive a message saying “your gear slots are full”. Since the chest has already been unlocked, it will no longer close, which technically removes the loot inside. If this is something you’ve been through, here’s how you can prevent it from happening.

To avoid losing gear in unopened chests, you’ll need to make sure you have an empty slot in your inventory. This will allow you to immediately acquire the loot and also prevent the dreaded error message from appearing.
If you’re in a rush to free up slots, we recommend selling some of the less valuable loot you have instead of destroying it completely so you don’t waste valuable gold coins.

Alternatively, you can also complete a specific number of Trials of Merlin to increase the number of inventory slots you have. These extra slots will be awarded to you after completing four, six, and 10 attempts respectively.
This can often be a worrying issue, as you never know what kind of gear you’ll be able to get with each chest you open. So, now that you know what’s causing this problem, you’ll need to start being more aware of your gear inventory, unless you want to lose the valuable legendary gear these containers can hold.
