How to drink water in Sons of the Forest

At the crash site from where you start your journey, you’ll find a bunch of boxes around you. These boxes contain many items, including a drink. You can open your inventory by pressing the ‘I’ key to access it. However, it will only help you once. Therefore, you will need to start looking for a water source as soon as possible.

You can only drink water from a fresh spring, so don’t even think about approaching the sea. Instead, open your map by pressing the “M” key, then search for a river. If you don’t already know, you can zoom in and out of the map by pressing the middle mouse button. Once you approach a river, look towards the water, preferably while crouching, and the water icon will appear on screen. You can then drink the water by holding down the ‘E’ key.

It’s important to note that water is a big part of the game (and in real life, obviously), and you’ll need to drink plenty of it. Therefore, it will be wise to build a base near a river. Alternatively, you can eat Yarrow and Salonberries, which are found all over the island. These items will also help quench your thirst, but their effect will be less than that of real water. Still, they’re great for those times when you’re away from a river and can’t afford to go.
