Each new season of Diablo 3 brings hordes of new treasures and exciting ways to play. With Season 28, all players seek out and grind Primordial Ashes. These crafting materials are some of the rarest materials Diablo 3 players have had to seek out. If you need help with Primordial Ashes, let’s break down what they do and how you can get them.

What are the primordial ashes used for?

The reason you’ll want to scream for Primordial Ashes in Season 28 is that you need 340 Primordial Ashes in total to unlock and craft the three new legendary potion powers. These powers can cause drinking your health potions to improve your damage, reduce your cooldowns, lower your resource cost, or give you a random pylon or shrine effect. This makes your health potions a much more dynamic facet of your game.

Where are the primordial ashes found?

Nowhere, unfortunately. At least, not in its raw form. Primordial Ashes are so rare that enemies won’t drop them. Instead, you can only get them by collecting a Primal Ancient Item from your Kanai Cube. When you pick up an Ancient Primordial item, you get 55 Primordial Ashes, but since you need so many, you still need to grind six different Ancient Primordial items to get enough for legendary potion powers. The worst news is that Primal Ancient items aren’t exactly easy to find.

Primal Ancient Items now drop in a very specific location: only Greater Rifts above level 70. When defeating a Level 70+ Greater Rift, Primal Ancient Items now have a chance to drop from Horadric Caches, the Kadala shop or the Kanai hub. However, this does not make it easy to obtain primordial ancient items. Basic Ancient items are already rare, with only a 10% chance of dropping in Legendary loot. And among these ancient objects, there is only a 2.5% chance that they will end up as primordial ancient objects. This means that each legendary drop has about a 0.25% chance of dropping a Primal Ancient item. Inevitably, you’ll be forced to spend a lot of time farming level 70+ Greater Rifts in order to get six Primal Ancient Items for that 340 Primal Ash.

Tips for Farming Primordial Ashes

There is no single hack to get Primordial Ashes. Diablo 3 Season 28 doesn’t have some kind of buggy boss that accidentally drops 1000 if you hit the right rock a certain way. The best thing you can do to collect your Primal Ancient Weapons is to run the level 70+ solo Greater Rifts. However, don’t force yourself. Only run rifts that you can comfortably beat in a short time. For example, if you take a solo level 90 Greater Rift but it takes more than half an hour, you’re not really efficient with your time. You’re better off rushing two or three individual level 70 Greater Rifts in the same amount of time. Keep working and hope Diablo 3 RNG will be merciful.
