If you’re looking to build an igloo house or an ice castle that can’t be melted down in Minecraft survival mode, consider using blue ice blocks as your primary building material. Like packed ice, this block of ice cannot be thawed, allowing you to create a winter ice house in the middle of a barren desert. In addition, its surface is exceptionally slippery, which is perfect for creative builders wishing to build an ice rink in their home. Alternatively, the Blue Topaz color of Blue Ice Blocks offers a lovely shade of blue that can be used to create many different types of decorations.

Finding Blue Ice in Minecraft

There are two main ways to get blue ice blocks in Minecraft. The first is to find naturally generated blue ice in frozen ocean biomes near snowy beaches. Blue ice can spawn at the bottom of icebergs under the packed ice of icy structures, or they spawn as their own random webs of ice. For example, we found a unique arched structure made entirely of blue ice separated from icebergs in a frozen ocean. The color of blue ice is noticeably different from that of compact ice, exhibiting more contrast in its hue with less greyish-white.

You can also discover Blue Ice inside house chests in Snowy Tundra towns or in the offers available from Minecraft peddlers. However, the likelihood of these sources providing blue ice is low. Then you better look for frozen ocean biomes.

You can also craft Blue Ice in Minecraft using nine blocks of Compacted Ice, a material found in abundance in frozen ocean biomes. However, whether you’re picking up Blue Ice directly or Wrapped Ice as a crafting material, your tool should be enchanted with Silk Touch. The best way to get Silk Touch is to deal with a Librarian villager and reset their profession until they give you the enchanted book with Silk Touch. After using an anvil to enchant your tool, you can get compact ice or blue ice from frozen oceans in Minecraft.
