While the idea of using visceral innards for practical utility is far from appealing, the Bile Sac is an internal organ in Valheim that offers relatively high utility for crafting. The resource is acquired from a particular creature that resides in the Mistlands, the region shrouded in mist that serves as the current endgame biome for Adventurers. Therefore, before you can get this gut material, you will need high level weapons and armor to survive. Additionally, a Wisplight will be needed to navigate through the thick mist that shrouds the land.

To find Bile Sacks in Valheim, head to the Mistlands and look for a creature known as Gjall, a huge insectoid creature that’s quite reminiscent of a Morrowind Silt Strider. As an aerial enemy, Gjall cannot be defeated using melee weapons, so you’ll need to make sure you have a magic staff or a strong bow with arrows to take down this enemy. When killed, a Valheim Gjall will drop a bile sac, also known as a “Bile Bag” in-game. The yellowish-orange organ is quite large, making it easy to spot once it touches the ground.

The Bile Bag in Valheim is used in two recipes: Bile Bombs and Jotun’s Bane. Bile Bombs can be crafted at a workbench and require Bilebag×1, Sap×1, and Resin×3. Once thrown, the bomb will burst into a lingering cloud of fire and poison upon impact. In our testing, we’ve found this grenade-like throw to be remarkably effective against tight groups of weaker enemies, like a Fuling Village’s infantry army.

The Jotun Bane is a late game ax crafted from Bile Sacks in Valheim that can deal double damage on the last hit of its 3 hit combo. We recommend crafting this ax at every opportunity, as the next biome introduced in the Nordic wilderness might contain trees that can only be harvested with high level axes like this. To craft Jotun Bane, you need to combine the following materials in a black forge: Bilebag × 3, Yggdrasil Wood × 5, Iron × 15, and Refined Eitr × 10.
