If you’re an angling collector looking to complete your wall of fish trophies in Valheim, one creature you’ll need to catch is the Northern Salmon. According to its in-game description, this fish “likes the water to be almost freezing”, suggesting that you won’t find it in wet swamps or warm Meadow lakes. True to its name, the Northern Salmon resides in the frigid waters of the Far North, a biome that is the polar opposite of the Ashlands. Since the far north always spawns in the northernmost part of the world, it’s an easy region to locate but difficult to reach.

To reach the salmon-filled northern waters of the Deep North biome in Valheim, you must travel directly north, which is an objective easier said than done. For example, if your base camp is near the center of the world, it may take hours to reach the upper region of the map. This duration includes all the necessary preparation, the camps you might build along the way, the enemies you will face, and many more demanding scenarios you might encounter. Also keep in mind that the Far North is extremely cold. Therefore, you will need some form of frost resistance if you want to survive sub-zero temperatures.
Before attempting to travel to the Far North and fish for northern salmon in Valheim, consider brewing Freezeproof Mead, a potion-like consumable crafted with a Brewer and Cauldron. The base mead mix requires honey, thistles, blood bags, and gray dwarf eyes. Alternatively, you can gain Frost Resistance by donning a Fenris Mantle, Lox Cloak, or pieces from the Wolf Armor Set.

To fish for northern salmon in Valheim, you will need a fishing rod, a tool that can be purchased from Haldor for 350 coins. Northern salmon cannot be lured with regular fishing bait, but require frosted fishing bait. This special lure is made by combining Fishing Lure x20 and a Drake trophy in a cauldron. Drake trophies are rare drops of drakes, the legless wyverns you find in the mountains.
