The first boss you will face in Wo Long Fallen Dynasty will be Zhang Liang, General of Man. This yellow turbaned brother uses a huge club to fight and will surprise you with his relentless attacks. One of the biggest problems players will face in this battle is the lack of space to attack. As this is the first boss battle you will face in the game, many players will be stuck here for a while. How to beat the first boss in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, Zhang Liang
Zhang Liang’s boss battle works like most Souls-type battles. Zhang Liang will have two phases. For the first part you will have your partner blind to steal aggro, but for the second part you are on your own. Since you deal an extremely low amount of damage, you’ll need to deflect all of his attacks as often as possible. To make this guide easier to digest, we’ll walk you through each phase of the battle.
First boss Zhang Liang Phase 1

In the first phase, Zang Liang can be easily stunned. It doesn’t matter what type of weapon you use, as long as it doesn’t use critical hits (red attacks). That’s why the best way to defeat him, early on, is to use a fast weapon and hit him until he uses a critical hit.
The best weapon to pass the first phase in a few seconds are the double blades. They are the fastest weapon you can get your hands on right now and although they do extremely low damage, they will stop Liang from using any of his attacks. Just spam the attack button until you see red, then dodge like crazy.
If you can also deflect your critical hits, it can also lower your spirit gauge, allowing you to land a killing blow. Liang only uses two critical hits in the first phase. One is where he lowers his club, charges it, then hits you with it, without moving. The second critical hit has him bring the club down in the same spot close to his body but charge directly at you to strike. It will switch between them depending on the distance between you.
First boss Zhang Liang Phase 2

For this phase, you will lose your partner, the blind swordsman, and you will have to fight alone. Zhang Liang will use his long arm to constantly attack you from a distance and you can no longer stagger him. For this part, it would be best if you tried to deflect all of his attacks. No matter how much damage you deal, you’ll have to kill him instantly with a special ability.
Fortunately, his critical hits are still relatively easy to deflect, so keep an eye out for them. You don’t have to defeat Zhang Liang in this phase, just complete your Summon Divine Beast ability. It’s a power you shouldn’t know how to use. The game will leave a small on-screen tutorial when the energy is full, which many may miss.
To activate the Summon Divine Beast ability, press triangle and circle together (Y and B, or Z on the keyboard). This will trigger a cutscene that will end the battle for you.

Defeating Zhang Liang in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty will give you all of his clothes and armor, as well as his giant club. Using them all together will grant you plenty of buffs and armor that you won’t have to change for a while.
