To get the most out of your dwarves in Dwarf Fortress, you’ll need to assign them specific job details that can maximize their strengths. While most of the job types you’ll find are typical of the game, such as miners and hunters, there are also some that are more unique, such as orderlies. If you’re having trouble understanding how to create and use Ordinances in-game, we’ve covered everything you need to know below.

Once the window appears, go to the Job tab and you will find the orders at the bottom of the job details list. After clicking on it, a list of your best suited dwarves for the job should appear on the right. You can then designate a dwarf for the job by simply clicking on the box in the right column.
You should always assign the details of the paramedics’ job to the people who have the most relevant skills, because that job is to help those who have been injured. This detail of work is usually assigned to medics and the chief medical dwarf, as they are often the most effective at dealing with these types of situations.

Then, at the top of the Zones menu, click the plus sign in the middle. In the new window that appears, select the new hospital and the area should finally be designated.
Now that you have a hospital, you’ll also need to make sure it has enough beds to house injured dwarves. You’ll also need to place at least one table inside so that your doctor or chief medical dwarf can perform surgery if needed.
Whenever military dwarves are sent into battle, injury and death are often unavoidable. This is where Medics come in, as they automatically help recover those who have been injured in battle so that no one is left behind. They are also usually the people who help heal injured dwarves by bandaging and stitching them up.
