First introduced in patch 2.4, Feast of Famine is part of a chain of optional quests for anglers level 50 and above. The quest chain is notorious for being slow, but many players will try it anyway due to the title it gives them, . Here is our guide to completing Feast of Famine in Final Fantasy XIV.

Famine Feast is part of a series of Wawalago quests, located in the Fishermen’s Guild on the lower decks of Limsa Lominsa (X: 8.1, Y: 15.2). You will need to complete the previous quest, The Beast of Brewer’s Beacon, in order to see Feast of Famine. To complete the quest, you will need to catch and deliver 6 rare fish. These are Endoceras, Namitaro, Helicoprion, Shonisaurus, Kuno the Killer, and Nepto Dragon. That’s what you need to catch them.

catch endoceres

  • Location: Umbra Islands, west of La Noscea
  • Window (in Eorzea time): 20:00 – 04:00
  • Bait: worm spoon
  • Terms: 399+ Meeting
  • Climate: Clear/Fair > Fog/Clouds/Wind (mandatory transition)

Catch a full moon (!) sardine with the spoon worm, then move it. If you meet the above requirements, you may be able to land an Endoceras (!!!). Using the Fish Eyes ability will remove the timing requirement, making it easier to catch that big catch.

catch namitaro

  • Location: Eruth’s Gift, Southern Shroud
  • Window (in Eorzea time): can be caught at any time
  • Bait: Firefly > Surface Frog
  • Terms: 399+ Gathering, Fisher’s Intuition when capturing Giant Takitaro
  • Climate: Thunderstorms

First, use fireflies as bait to catch a giant (!!!) Takitaro in thunder/lightning storm weather. Once Fisher’s Intuition is activated, proceed to cast with Topwater Frogs to trap Namitaro (!!!).

Catch the helicoprion

  • Location: Sagoili Desert, South Thanalan
  • Window (in Eorzea time): 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Bait: Sand Leech/Sand Gecko/Rolling Stone
  • Terms: 399+ Meeting
  • Climate: Clouds/fog > Heat wave (mandatory transition)

Using Sand Leech, Sand Gecko or Rolling Stone bait, catch a Storm Rider (!!) and Mooch to catch a Helicoprion. Storm Rider’s initial take doesn’t have weather or weather requirements, but Mooch does. Note that Fish Eyes will not replace the time required for that fish.

catch the shonisaurus

  • Location: Witch Drop, Coerthas Central Highlands
  • Window (in Eorzea time): can be caught at any time
  • Bait: flying worm
  • Terms: 403+ Meeting
  • Climate: Clear/Fair > Blizzard (mandatory transition)

Start by catching a Cloud Cutter (!!) with the Hoverworm, then move it with the weather transition to catch a Mahar (!!!). Finally, Mooch the Mahar with a climate transition to catch a Shonisaurus (!!!). The Cloud Cutter has no climatic requirements.

Catch Kuno the Killer

  • Location: The Shards of the North, Mor Dhona
  • Window (in Eorzea time): 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Bait: honey worm
  • Terms: 399+ Gathering, Fisher’s Intuition through Canavan
  • Climate: Gloom (to catch Canavan)

Activate Fisher’s Intuition by catching a Goldfish (!) with Honey Worms and mooching it to catch a Canavan (!!!). Weather and weather requirements will apply, as Fish Eyes does not waive weather requirements. While active, catch a Silverfish (!) or a Goldfish and Mooch for an Assassin Betta (!!), and Mooch once more for Kuno the Killer (!!!).

Catch the dragon Nepto

  • Location: Privateer Sterncastle, east of La Noscea (can be reached by speaking to a ferry skipper on the Costa del Sol)
  • Window (in Eorzea time): can be caught at any time
  • Bait: northern krill
  • Terms: 403+ Gathering, Fisher’s Intuition for catching Little Thalaos 3 times in The Rhotano Privateer (Little Thalaos trapped on the Costa del Sol will not grant Fisher’s Intuition)
  • Climate: Showers/Rain

Start by catching 3 Small Thalaos (!!) with the Northern Krill. Be sure to cast your line into the fishing hole in Privateer Sterncastle or you won’t be able to continue. To facilitate this, you should use the same cast and double hook to quickly reel in the required amount of fish. After catching 3, you will get Fisher’s Intuition. Relaunch your line with Northern Krill, rinse and repeat until Nepto Dragon (!!!) has landed on your hands, refreshing Fisher’s Intuition if needed.
