Despite being completely free, Holocure is definitely one of the best “Vampire Survivors Likes” available; However, with so many Hololive VTubers to choose from, which character is the best? As of version 0.5, there are 29 playable characters to choose from, with beloved idols such as Gura from holoMyth, Kronii from holoCouncil, and Subaru from Gen 2. As strong as your love for some of these VTubers may be, some of them are noticeably less ideal for playing than others, and we’re here to help you decide which one is the best.

Which characters are the best in Holocure?

With so many items and weapons for a variety of potential builds, we came up with a solid methodology to keep things simple when determining our Holocure character tier list:

  1. The upgrade section is off limits except for Weapon Limit and G Rank Off to make sure we only focus on our VTuber’s unique weapons and features.
  2. We played all 29 members of Hololive through Grassy Plains until defeating the first boss, which appears about two minutes later, to get a decent idea of their base and rated performance.
  3. Special attacks are not allowed because even the lowest level characters can possess overwhelming abilities, which skews our judgment of their combat abilities.

Now that our settings are in place to ensure our ratings are fair, here’s a list showing every level rating for every playable character in Holocure:

S-tier characters in Holocure

At the top of the tier list, we have three overpowered units equal in their higher tier performance: Sora, Choco, and Shion. At first, Sora’s Bright Star projectiles might seem troublesome, but once you can place multiple stars on a boss or group of enemies, these chainsaw-like weapons can rip your enemies to shreds. Likewise, Choco’s Love Needles can pierce multiple enemies in a wide cone, multiplying the damage dealt by each syringe. After two minutes, your weapon transforms into a great elite and trash stabbing machine. Finally, Shion’s Murasaki Bolt initially looks weak. However, once you level it up a few times, it becomes a deadly shotgun that can melt opponents at close range while keeping enemies at bay.

A-level characters in Holocure

While they may not offer the same combat power as S-tiers, our picks for A-tier can certainly hold their own with weapons that are easy to control and effective. First of all, Amelia’s pistol shot isn’t visually intimidating, but it can deal massive damage to single targets, making it a great choice for dealing with elites and bosses. Gura’s Trident Thrust is like Choco’s Needle but offers a slightly smaller range. Once upgraded, it can become very effective at close range. Next up is Mio, whose Tarot Card round-trip linear swipe mechanic almost puts it in the S-tier category. However, the short range and range of its projectiles could be better, despite its remarkably high damage.

Korone’s Orayo is somewhat comparable to Gura’s Trident but stronger. However, her fast, close-range punch lacks range, preventing her from reaching S-level status. Mel’s Kapu Kapu and bats make her a clearer fantasy horde, which will keep your screen full of less weak enemies and more XP points. Finally, similar to Shion, IRyS is a Holocure character who has a slow start but can quickly increase in power once her weapon is able to pierce enemies. However, the fact that you have to manually get to this point stifles your level ranking.

B-tier characters in Holocure

For B-tier characters in Holocure, we have Calli, Fubuki, Miko, Matsuri, Subaru, and Ayame. They’re all decent units, but they lack the extraordinary abilities to make them ideal choices. Calli, Miko, and Fubuki are nearly identical and have bow-sliding weapons. While these armaments aren’t bad, their attack speed is too low, resulting in damage numbers that are too low to be satisfying. Ayame is a bit more attractive thanks to the increased flexibility of her Dual Katanas. However, the DPS rates are still too low. In contrast, Subaru’s Baseball Toss deals exceptionally high damage, but its projectile trajectory is too linear to take out groups of enemies.

C-level characters in Holocure

Unfortunately, it’s hard to recommend Hololive C-tier roster members unless you’re a die-hard fan of the Holocure character. Whether it’s low damage numbers, clunky and uncontrollable weapons, or awkward hitbox positioning, the downsides of these units are too visible to be reliable in combat. For example, Kiara’s Phoenix Sword cannot hit enemies directly next to its sprite, and it is impossible for AkiRose’s Aik to hit the intended target. The list could go on and on, but the bottom line is that using these characters is only reasonable if you want a “new” experience in your runs.

D-level characters in Holocure

In the C-tier section, we mentioned that we wouldn’t recommend the characters in most cases. On the other hand, we do not recommend that you choose a character from our Tier D category for Holocure characters. Even though real VTubers are exceptional individuals with unique characteristics, their playable counterparts on Hololive provide an excruciating experience and will make most people regret playing them. Whether it’s Ina’s Summon Tentacle’s inability to hit its target or Sana’s weapon not killing the boss after its 20th orbit, none of these units are worth the effort for a effective metagame.
