The new Harry Potter game Hogwarts Legacy has already broken a world record on Twitch and is fast approaching a second, beating RPG Cyberpunk 2077 as well as Elden Ring, World of Warcraft and Call of Duty. It arrives just after the Hogwarts Legacy early access period, but still a few days before the full Hogwarts Legacy release date.

As of this writing, Hogwarts Legacy holds the record for the most concurrent Twitch viewership for a single-player game, with a peak of 1,269,317 people logging in to watch Harry Potter gameplay streams, surpassing the holder of the previous record, Cyberpunk. 2077, at 1,143,965. That’s a lot of people seeing a lot of Hogwarts Legacy spells.

While multiplayer games like Fortnite, Minecraft, and League of Legends dominate the concurrent viewership charts, single-player Hogwarts Legacy has surpassed many online games in a second Twitch category: most concurrent streamers.

At its peak, 32,108 Twitch channels were simultaneously streaming Hogwarts Legacy, breaking records for games like Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Elden Ring, World of Warcraft, and Apex Legends. If you’ve been watching on Twitch and thinking about getting into Hogwarts Legacy, get ready for all of the Hogwarts Legacy challenges.

The data comes from Twitch, Facebook, and YouTube monitoring site Stream Charts, which tracks viewership across different games and channels. The numbers also follow a surprising twist when it comes to pre-loading Hogwarts Legacy on Steam. Previously, Avalanche, the game’s developers, said that wouldn’t be possible, but that’s all changed. Take a look if you want to know how to preload Hogwarts Legacy.

Harry Potter series creator JK Rowling has made a number of transphobic comments on social media in recent years. While WB Games claims that “JK Rowling is not directly involved in the creation of the game”, it is based on her work, and it is not yet clear whether she will receive royalties from her sales.
