A fantastic new game from IO Interactive, the developer of the Hitman series, is on the way. It’s unclear exactly what kind of game IOI is creating, but it will contain RPG and online elements, as confirmed by the game’s first concept art.
The developer of the recently renamed Hitman series and upcoming James Bond video game (codenamed Project 007) has announced another brand new project, and it’s one that will likely surprise many, as IO Interactive is creating an “Online Fantasy RPG “. .”
Not much is known about the new IO Interactive game yet, but the statement on the project says the developer is inspired by the diversity and togetherness found in many tabletop RPGs, which they want to channel into this game.
“We share with you all that we are embarking on a new adventure! One that expands our creativity, our abilities, and in a sense, our identity,” says IO Interactive. “We are building a new world, a new IP: an online fantasy role-playing game. A world and game built from the core to entertain players and grow for many years to come. It sounds familiar, but at the same time, IOI is embarking on a journey unlike any we’ve been on before.
“This idea, that a diverse group of people with different abilities and strengths can work together and become more than the sum of their parts, is what inspires us. Inspire the fantasy world we build and inspire the way we build it. IOI now spans several different studios, from Copenhagen and Malmö in the north to the heat of Barcelona in the south. All studios are involved in the creation of all of our games, including this new effort. People from all over the world with diverse personalities and abilities come together to forge a new beginning.
Although part of the concept, describing the world and characters of this fantastic game, has also been shared, it is not clear what type of “online fantasy RPG” IO Interactive is creating. The obvious lack of mentioning it as an MMORPG game leads me to believe that it will be more like Divinity, Dragon Age or Pillars of Eternity, but it could still be more of an MMO; at this point, we just don’t know.
