It’s like pizza and ice cream, burgers and fries: two of my all-time favorites, Half-Life 2 and Resident Evil, have been merged to create a new classic-style fixed-camera horror game , and it is available now and available for free. If you need something to fill in the time before the Resident Evil 4 release date, I’d say this is the one.
Lost and Damned is a full conversion mod for Half-Life 2, using monsters and weapons from Valve and Steam FPS as the basis for 90s-style survival horror set inside, you guessed it, of an old mansion. Stock management, tricky aiming and tank controls – every aspect of Half-Life 2 has been reworked for that classic Resident Evil feel. You can see Lost and Damned in action below:
Instead of the Umbrella T-Virus monstrosities, we have the headcrab zombies. Instead of first aid sprays, we have those little green HP vials found in the wooden crates of the combine. Lost and Damned even has its own custom soundtrack: the main theme in particular sounds like the perfect blend of battle music from Half-Life 2 and the lo-fi synth score from the original Resident Evil.
Created by modder ‘SellFace’, all you need to play Lost and Damned is your very own copy of Half-Life 2 Episode Two, as it uses the 2007 shooter as its base. Built in about five months, the full version of Lost and Damned is available for download here.
