Between GTA 3, Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto San Andreas, it felt like Rockstar’s sandbox game could never go wrong. But then came GTA Definitive Edition. Over a year after the release of Grand Theft Auto DE, we’re still waiting for bug fixes from Rockstar (and maybe a Red Dead Redemption 2 update, while they’re at it). However, GTA Definitive Edition is already on the Epic Games Store, after its recent arrival on Steam. It’s still buggy, but it’s cheap, so it might be worth trying again while we wait, and wait, for the GTA 6 release date.

GTA Definitive Edition is on the Epic Games Store with a 50% discount, which means you can get the entire Grand Theft Auto Original Trilogy for $29.99 USD (£29.99 GBP). Like the Steam release, which arrived in January, this new iteration unfortunately doesn’t come with the substantial Rockstar fix we’ve been waiting for, meaning many of the original issues will likely persist.

Either way, with GTA Definitive Edition now available in a variety of PC stores, you can ask Rockstar to tweak it a bit. Here is the hope.

GTA 3 is probably the most stable of the re-releases, with reductions in character textures and models mostly affecting Vice City and San Andreas. However, the rain effects damaging the original SA eyes have been fixed, and there’s still plenty to do in the open-world series thanks to regular GTA 5 updates.

Hopefully GTA 6 will also be on the way sooner rather than later, although Red Dead Redemption 2 fans are unlikely to get much substantial new content, with the latest major western game update still being Blood Money from 2021. If Rockstar throws everything into the new Grand Theft Auto, at the expense of some of its current games, which, arguably, is a worthwhile compromise. We’ll have to see when the first GTA 6 trailer arrives.
