The largest RP server in GTA costs the operator huge sums of money.

The current wave of hype about the role-playing game servers in GTA 5 has the streaming platform firmly under control. Even if the first big streamers have already given up their virtual RP career because it was just too much work, hundreds of thousands of viewers watch the goings-on on the largest GTA role-playing game server NoPixel 3.0 every day.

But what does it cost to finance such a huge project every month? The friend of the server operator has now commented on this on Twitter with specific figures.

$ 10,000 just for server costs?

On March 25th, Arachnea, the partner of the server owner Koil, published the tweet mentioned. The reasons for this were claims that the couple would fill their own pockets with the generous donations from the server community after they bought a new car in 2020:

“I have often read (misinformed) opinions that Koil is just a selfish, money-hungry guy. Running NoPixel costs us $ 10,000 a month. That’s just server costs, we send the developers some love too, of course. Everyone who comes across http://nopixel.net donates, thank you very much! ”

The first doubters quickly emerged. For example, a Twitter user claims to be familiar with several role-playing servers for 150 players that are said to cost only $ 250 a month – NoPixel would cost 40 times as much as a regular server.

However, Arachnea immediately countered with a proof: You can see an invoice from AWS (Amazon Web Services), one of the largest cloud and server hosts in the world:

Why is NoPixel so expensive?

Compared to other fan-operated servers, NoPixel offers a sophisticated gameplay system. Hundreds of plugins ensure that independently programmed mechanics have been implemented for virtually every profession and activity.

An example: The staff at the fast food store Burger Joint can actually prepare their customers’ food step by step. French fries have to be fried and burgers have to be assembled, then the money is settled in cash or by debit card at the cash register.

Additional servers are said to have been rented for all of these plugins in order to share the performance load. This is to avoid jerks, overloading and crashes. In addition, the developers of the extensions are paid – so the costs are likely to be well above the stated $ 10,000 per month.
