We’ve heard several reports lately that Gears 6 is in development, with journalist Jeff Grubb stating that the development team recently dropped two other projects to work on the next Gears game. Well, a new job listing released by Microsoft certainly gives credence to those reports.
Xbox Owner Announces Senior Gameplay Designer Position at The Coalition; the Canadian development team behind Gears of War. Here’s a snippet of what the role expects of candidates, along with the team’s overall mantra:
Lead Gameplay Designer – Gears Of War – The Coalition
“The Coalition is looking for a skilled and experienced Game Designer to help create AAA game experiences.
As the official home of the Gears of War franchise, our goal is to shape the future of intellectual property and push the boundaries of Microsoft entertainment platforms and devices. Our team is comprised of deep creative and technical talent from across our industry and beyond, working cohesively to delight our fanbase and exceed expectations of what is possible.”
It certainly looks like full throttle in Gears of War to us, although such a hiring suggests we’re probably a long way from even launching in 2023. Given that Gears 5 was released in 2019, it looks like we’re in for a bit of a wait for the next Gears of War game. Gears of War.
The Coalition hasn’t been entirely silent since 2019, however. In addition to backing Gears 5, the studio also worked with the creators of the Gears series Epic Games on The Matrix Awakens demo in 2021, a small-scale project created to show what Unreal is. Engine 5 can do that.
