Games Made Quick (GDQ)The organization, which runs speedrun marathons that raise money for a variety of charities, has updated its list of banned games to include Hogwarts Legacy and all Harry Potter However, the company also said this ban would be “subject to further review in the future.”
Why were the Harry Potter games banned from GDQ?
Harry Potter games have been allowed at previous GDQ events, and the company has yet to explain to The Gamer why they’ve now banned the titles. However, it is believed to be linked to the controversy surrounding Harry Potter author JK Rowling’s comments about the transgender community which led to a Hogwarts Legacy developer boycotting the game entirely and the director to clarify that “the team created Hogwarts Legacy for everyone.”
GDQ’s list of banned games also includes games with excessively sexual content and gratuitous violence, which should come as no surprise for an event that claims to be kid-friendly:
- Games with an ESRB rating for adults only.
- All games prohibited on twitch
- Area control
- America’s Most Wanted
- Barkley, Shut Up and Jam: Gaiden
- Five Nights at Freddy’s Series
- frog fractions
- God of War (2005)
- Harry Potter series, including Hogwarts Legacy*
- Huniepop series
- ionic fury
- Kurovadis
- Heroic
- Escuela Secundaria Natsuiro: Seishun Hakusho
- Rock’s Search
GDQ’s next event will be the Summer Games Done Quick Marathon in May, but don’t expect to see Hogwarts Legacy on the schedule anytime soon.
