PS5 console exclusive abandoned it apparently had a development budget of over $100 million. That’s according to its lead author Allison Rymer, who mentioned the staggering number on her LinkedIn profile.
Forspoken PS5, PC saw lackluster sales
Spotted by GamesRadar, Rymer’s LinkedIn profile still contains Forspoken’s budget information as of this writing. The page will probably end up updating soon, but a screenshot of the affected part is attached below.
Following speculation, Square Enix admitted in a recent earnings call that Forspoken failed. Thanks in large part to its nondescript world, dodgy dialogue, and story, the game failed to win over critics and gamers.
Shortly after its statement on Forspoken’s lackluster sales, Square Enix announced that it had dissolved developer Luminous Productions and merged it into the company. Yesterday the PlayStation Store slashed the price of the game after just 50 days on the market, an unusual move for Sony.
There was a lot of talk about what was wrong with Forspoken. According to various reports, Square Enix continued to tinker with the game’s plot, rendering the final product unrecognizable from the original tone. Writer Gary Whitta distanced himself from the game, revealing that he had no input into the final version.
