Square Enix has revealed it will be merging abandoned developer Luminous Productions, which is already one of its wholly owned subsidiaries, into the business. The move comes after the game received mixed reviews from both critics and users, and underperformed overall in terms of sales for a PS5 exclusive.

Luminous Productions shared in a tweet (posted above) that their team will be joining Square Enix starting May 1, 2023. Before that happens, the developer will be focusing on a Forspoken performance fix, as well as “In Tanta. ” WeTrust”. DLC which is “on track for release this summer”.
Square Enix shared more information about the merger in a statement, adding that the move will “further strengthen the competitive prowess” of its studios. The publisher highlights the “AAA title development capabilities” of Luminous Production and its experience in the development of game engines. The latter isn’t much of a surprise given that Luminous Productions was created in part to emphasize Square Enix’s proprietary Luminous Engine.
As well as being bombarded with reviews on Metacritic, Forspoken has a Metascore of 64 for the PS5 version of the game. On Steam, user reviews were “mixed” overall, with only 59% agreeing. gave him a positive boost. It also struggled in the sales charts, with the game debuting at number 7 in the US/Canada charts on the PS Store download charts for January 2023.
