If you’re a fan of Pac-Man-style 3D maze games, you’ll definitely enjoy Floral Pursuit, one of the three main activities in Windblume’s Breath event in Genshin Impact. This mini-game places you in instanced chambers, where you must collect balloons but evade larger balloons chasing you, similar to Pac-Man’s “ghosts.” Luckily, it’s not over if you get caught, as you have plenty of lives to complete the challenge. Completing the first stage of Flower Chase will reward you with Primogems, flower coupons for the event shop, and the Sent Flower, a Claymore exclusive to the Windblume’s Breath event.

To unlock Floral Pursuit in Genshin Impact, you need to complete Act I of Windblume’s Breath, “A Gathering of Outlanders”. During this mission, you will see several familiar faces from Mondstadt and Sumeru. Completing this quest will take you about half an hour, after which you can participate in all three activities that Windblume’s Breath has to offer. To begin Floral Pursuit in Genshin Impact, head to the Festive Event location outside the northern city gate of Mondstadt and talk to an adventurer NPC named Plauen.

Plauen refers to the Flower Chase minigame in Windblume’s Breath of Genshin Impact as Flower Chess. As mentioned above, the experience actually has very little to do with chess and works more like a 3D Pac-Man with Genshin characters. Your objective in Floral Chess is to collect a number of Bloom Balloons to progress through different rooms while being chased by Ersatz Balloons. You don’t need to collect all the balloons to advance, nor worry about the penalty of being caught. If an Ersatz Balloon hits you, your character will lose a life or Chase Point and be returned to the initial section of the chamber with no loss of progress.

While you can swap characters in Genshin Impact during Floral Pursuit in Windblume’s Breath, you cannot activate their elemental or burst abilities. However, the mini-game does not leave you completely defenseless against your pursuers. Instead, you can find three types of “pickups” throughout the level:
- Gale Blessing: This pickup gives you an Ersatz Dispeller charge, allowing you to defeat any Ersatz Balloon you touch for seven seconds. You can activate this ability by pressing your normal attack input.
- Quick Blessing – Although we haven’t given this item a name, we call it “Quick Blessing” because it temporarily increases your character’s speed for several seconds, allowing you to quickly outrun any Ersatz Balloons chasing you .
- Blessing Gathering: This pickup acts like a magnet, expanding its collection range of Bloom Balloons for 10 seconds. It is activated upon withdrawal.
You will face three types of Ersatz balloons in Floral Pursuit in Genshin Impact: Whispering Breeze, Bumper Shroom, and Spherical Squall. In stage 1 of the mini-game, “Orderly Wind”, you will only encounter Whispering Breeze and Bumper Shroom, while Spherical Squall will be introduced in later stages. Bumper Shroom is significantly faster than Whispering Breeze, so be sure to keep your distance when collecting Bloom Balloons.

It is not necessary to collect all Flower Balloons to complete the Floral Chess minigame in Windblume’s Breath of Genshin Impact. As long as you collect around 80-90% of all balloons, a crown called Ring of Pursuit will appear in the final chamber of the instance. You can tap this ring to complete Floral Pursuit in Genshin Impact. You don’t need to get a perfect score or keep all of your pursuit points to get all of the event rewards. For example, we lost two lives but still scored over 1000 points beyond the requirement to win all three prize tiers. In other words, perfection is not necessary.

After completing “Ordered Wind” in Genshin Impact, be sure to claim your rewards from the Breath of the Windblume Floral Chase event menu screen. The same objective is required for each stage that you will unlock later as the event progresses. Completion rewards will not be awarded to you automatically, so you should always remember to receive all reward levels each time. You can participate in Floral Pursuit’s Floral Chess mini-game until Windblume’s Breath ends on March 20, 2023.
