Hiroshi Takai, Senior Director of final fantasy 16, he is completely impressed with the speed and power of the PS5. In particular, he points to the console’s memory size and SSD speed as something that sets it apart from the rest. In early March, combat director Ryoto Suzuki explained why Final Fantasy 16 couldn’t run on PS4, similarly noting that the PS5’s memory and SSD are a must for the game’s perfect combat system.

FF16 will use PS5 Dualsense to improve Chocobo’s ride

In a post on the official Playstation blog, Takai explained that many consoles fail to “find the right balance between hardware capabilities and memory size”. This is mainly why the PS5 specs caught your eye. He was “just blown away” by the speed of the console’s internal SSD.

It was only because of the PS5’s memory size that Square Enix was able to render all of the game’s character and environment models, as well as lighting and shadows. It allows for seamless transitions between the game’s “resource-intensive gameplay” and equally intensive cutscenes and vice versa.

Takai also reveals that the PS5 Dualsense’s adaptive triggers and haptic feedback will improve the feeling of lifting heavy doors and riding chocobos. It will also convert sound effects into haptic data, so it can represent something as subtle as “air movement”.

Final Fantasy 16 producer Naoki Yoshida has confirmed that the game will run at 60 FPS on PS5 for those who enable performance mode.
