FIFA’s Ultimate Team mode is Electronic Arts’ goose that lays golden eggs, providing it with a significant portion of its revenue each year. And there is a rumor that EA employees are selling cards illegally at significant prices. Brent Dubin comes back to it in this first daily of the day.
These are heavy accusations that Electronic Arts is the victim of today. FIFA’s Ultimate Team game mode is a big hit, but it’s also widely criticized for its economy.
This mode allows you to compose your team by drawing lots of cards. A kind of free-to-play in a paid game where the one who spends the most money is necessarily at an advantage over the other players. But since Wednesday evening, players denounce different trafficking with the hashtag EAGate.
EA launches an investigation
Players would have been canvassed by people who promise rare cards for several hundred or even thousands of euros. Screenshots are circulating and people say they received their card immediately on their account after paying.
So players wonder where these cards come from, and the most prevalent theory would be that these are employees at EA who could generate these cards and sell them illegally. Electronic Arts takes its allegations very seriously and has officially responded that an investigation is underway.
