HBO’s The Last of Us Episode 8 “When We’re In Need” aired last night, and audience reviews unanimously praised Ellie’s actress, Bella Ramsey. However, fans have raised concerns about the lack of Infected not just in the episode but in Season 1 as a whole.
How The Last of Us Episode 8 is different from the game
The HBO version of The Last of Us is, by and large, a faithful adaptation of the video game, but it includes changes that make the series stand out. One such change in Episode 8 is the omission of an in-game sequence that sees Ellie and David battle the Infected.
“I really enjoy the show, but my number one complaint is how few infections show up,” one fan wrote. “Missing the infected again,” wrote another.
Others defended the showrunner’s decision to cut the footage.
“It’s missing the infected again because it’s not a story about the infected,” a fan explained. “The Infected primarily serve as a game mechanic, whereas in a movie or TV show they are more useful as a plot device,” added another.
Opinion on the lack of infected aside, Episode 8 looks set to become one of the highest rated episodes of Season 1 on IMDB. Although it still doesn’t have as many votes as previous episodes, The Last of Us Episode 8 currently has a 9.6 rating with nearly 10,000 votes.
