Just mentioning it, Fallout New Vegas Remastered, is enough to make my skin crawl. With the future of Bethesda’s series of RPG games currently uncertain, and only hints of a possible Fallout 5 release date, the prospect of the best apocalyptic survival sim ever made will be updated and re-released for PC. modern is, frankly, the thing of Dreams. But maybe, just maybe, it could happen, as two Obsidian developers, the Pentiment studio and Outer Worlds behind the 2010 original, say a Fallout New Vegas remaster would be “amazing.”
Outer Worlds Spacer’s Choice Edition will launch on March 7, bringing a remaster of 2019’s open-world gameplay with better visuals and a higher level cap.
Speaking of the remaster, Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky, two Obsidian directors who worked on the original Fallout games as well as New Vegas and Outer Worlds, seem to approve of the idea of Fallout New Vegas Remastered.
“It’s not for me to decide, but wouldn’t a graphical remaster of Fallout New Vegas be amazing?” Cain says to the player. “That would be amazing,” Boyarsky agrees.
Sure, that’s far from an official endorsement of Obsidian in a New Vegas remaster, but it’s very nice to imagine. The bugs and technical issues of the original became part of the experience: that distinctive New Vegas aesthetic, with the vibrant oranges and fast fighters, wouldn’t be the same if all went well.
However, it would be great to play an updated version of Fallout New Vegas, with a higher level cap, some combat tweaks, and a bit more scale in the big battle scenes. Imagine the end of the Hoover Dam but with 30, 40, 50 NCR troops instead of the usual handful.
Imagine the Strip, revitalized and enhanced to provide a true sense of atmosphere and mood. Imagine hearing “patrolling the Mojave almost makes me wish for nuclear winter,” but now in thunderous Dolby 5.1 surround sound. A Fallout fan can only dream.
