E3 2023 it was canceled due to lack of interest and because the developers and publishers would not be ready in time. Organizer Reedpop has confirmed in an official statement that the in-person event will not take place for the second consecutive year despite efforts that have already been made to try and get it off the ground.
E3 will continue in the future
Despite the cancellation of this year’s event, Reedpop assured gamers, developers and publishers that they would continue to work with the ESA to create “future E3 events”. Reedpop explained to IGN the reasons why E3 2023 was canceled:
It was a tough decision because of all the effort we and our partners put into making this event happen, but we had to do what was right for the industry and what was right for E3. We appreciate and understand that interested companies would not have playable demos ready and that resource issues made being at E3 this summer a hurdle they could not overcome. For those of you who signed up for E3 2023, we’re sorry we couldn’t provide the showcase you deserve and expect from ReedPop event experiences.

The ESA reportedly sent an email to its members earlier today stating that the event “simply did not generate the sustained interest needed to handle it in a way that showed the size, strength and the impact of our industry”. After companies like Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, Ubisoft, Sega, and Tencent confirmed they would not be attending E3 2023, it became clear that this year’s event was extremely unlikely to go ahead.
