If you like the idea of warm co-op play across a snowy wasteland, Blanc might just be the game for you. It’s perfectly usable as a single-player experience, but the game is designed to be played in two-player co-op for best results. Thankfully, the multiplayer feature is pretty straightforward to figure out, though there are still lingering questions for many players, including the ability to play co-op across different platforms. Does White support crossplay?
Blanc was released on both PC and Nintendo Switch, and savvy readers will notice that they’re two very different platforms. Cross-play is a fairly common addition to multiplayer games these days, but sadly Blanc will limit players to its own tech ecosystem when it comes to online co-op. This means that PC gamers will only be able to team up with other PC gamers, while Switch owners will have to stick with their fellow Nintendo fans. On the plus side, although Blanc was released on two different storefronts for PC, namely Steam and the Epic Games Store, it is possible to connect your friends lists from both of these accounts, allowing you to choose from the full range of your comrades online, no matter which version of PC you choose to buy.
Even if White isn’t in crossplay, that doesn’t mean you can’t have a good time in co-op. It’s entirely possible to play with a friend at a local couch co-op, so you can experience the warm vibes with a friend or family member in real life, even if you can’t cross the ravine of the platform. The game isn’t that long either, so chances are you’ll be able to go through everything in person in a matter of hours. But don’t feel the need to rush; after all, some games are best slowed down.
