Those who are considering participating in the Diablo IV beta, but are horrified by the size of the game’s installer files, can easily shrink them. We explain how to do it.
Whether you’ve taken part in previous Diablo 4 beta tests or are going there this weekend, you probably know that the game can get heavy. Activision Blizzard’s work isn’t one of the smallest, and for those counting every gigabyte of free space on their hard drives, it can be downright overwhelming. Luckily, there’s a way to cut the weight of the game in half, though it’s not without its downsides..
- First of all, the cheat can only be applied if you download the full beta version of Diablo IV, which weighs almost 80 GB (“overkill” concerts are generated by textures in UltraHD quality).
- Second, downgrading the beta means downgrading to lower quality textures. Thus, we will not launch the title in 4K resolution, but in 1920×1080, or Full HD.
Diablo IV beta – how to reduce disc size
Below we have described in a fairly clear step-by-step method how to reduce the size of Diablo 4 beta files. So, if you follow the instructions, you should have no problem achieving the goal.
- Once you have finished downloading the required files, in the Battle.net launcher you need to select the version of Diablo IV – Beta (lower left corner of the screen) and then click on “Pre-install”.
- The game installation window will appear. In the “Game content” section, click on the option: “Edit installed content”.
- When you do this, another window will appear, in which you must uncheck the “High resolution assets” option and then click on: “Confirm”.
- This will take you back to the previous window, where you can choose where you want to install the game.
- When you are sure that everything has been done, select the option: “Start the installation”.
We realize that some of you have already installed the full version of the beta. It turns out that in this case it is still possible to reduce your weight. Here’s how:
- In the Battle.net launcher, you need to click on the gear icon next to the “Play” button and select the “Edit Installed Content” option.
- Then a new window will appear and in the “Game content” section, select “Edit installed content” again.
- By doing this, the window mentioned in the previous steps will appear, and in it you need to uncheck “High-resolution assets”.
As you can see, this process is extremely simple. Unfortunately, when we save disk space, we are forced to make compromises, so you have to decide for yourself whether you prefer 4K resolution or extra free space on your disks.
The Diablo IV open beta test has already started and will last until March 27 (Monday) at 20:00 CET. Participation, unlike the first round, is guaranteed to all comers (unless you get stuck in the queues). You can find more information about the tests at this link.
