A new Destiny 2 Lightfall trailer shows how the FPS game’s Year 6 story will unfold, showing Vanguard’s will to take on the game’s biggest villain yet. A slowed-down version of Radiohead’s “Karma Police” plays the backdrop to an action-packed trailer featuring the Cloudstriders, the city of Neomuna, and Destiny 2’s Underclass Strand in a gripping narrative that players will see in full force from the start of the game Destiny 2 Lightfall release date.
At the start of the trailer, Guardians sees a broken piece of glass, which symbolizes something that is unclear at this time and which appears in much of the recent narrative promotional material surrounding Lightfall.
The Witness, whom Commander Zavala calls “the malefactor of our first landslide”, makes his first appearance among humanity and its allies.
“You have no purpose because you’re afraid to seek one,” The Witness’s chilling voice echoes in the background.
“We know the pain,” the witness also said. “Our goal is your end.”
As a paracausal entity, the Witness’ wishes become clearer as Lightfall draws closer. The entity believes that the only true end of suffering is lifelessness and appears with the mission to end it all.
Players can finally see the Voyager in action. In the trailer, he fires a beam of light that has an effect on the Dark Fleet pyramids. We only get a brief glimpse, and it’s hard to be sure it’s not just destroying ships, but also sprouting and growing red vegetation. Either way, we’ve never seen the Traveler do this before – this is our first glimpse of his true power. If he creates life, which would align with the resurrection power he gave to the Guardians, it would further solidify his position as a force opposing the witness’s vision of a lifeless universe. The Great Machine first used its power to terraform planets and usher humanity into its golden age by helping it expand throughout the solar system. Thus, this image indicates that the Traveler is fully ready to face the sequel, having performed very few physical actions throughout the history of the Destiny franchise.
Another powerful image shows the Witness standing in front of the pyramids surrounding the Traveler, forming a form resembling Sagira, the Ghost who sacrificed himself to save his Guardian, Osiris. This disturbing image could mean that there is a relationship between The Witness and Osiris. Remember that Osiris was awakened from his sleep by a tea made from the Relics of Nezarec, who was a disciple of the Witness.
