Polish game developer CD Projekt, who developed “Cyberpunk 2077” and “The Witcher,” admitted to being attacked by ransomware.

CD Projekt Twitter account, In his post, he said he “will not make concessions or negotiate with hackers” and that there is a backup. “We have already protected our IT infrastructure and have begun to restore data,” the company said.

According to the request, hackers will release the stolen source code and other internal files of CD Projekt if they don’t pay the ransom. But the company said, “It’s likely that you’ll be able to recover from a backup.”

At the moment, CD Projekt states that personal data has not been stolen. “We continue to investigate the case, but as far as we know, it has been confirmed that the leaked system does not contain any personal data related to players or services.”

This is a hostile tactic used by ransomware practitioners. Hackers use malware that encrypts files to target high-value businesses and businesses, demanding a ransom and retaining files. However, many companies keep backups, and some ransomware groups threaten to publish stolen files unless the ransom is paid.

CD Projekt Red hasn’t answered questions from TechCrunch about what ransomware was used to attack its system.

CD Projekt is believed to be the second ransomware target in the last few years. The developer confirmed that a hack in 2017 compromised early work related to “Cyberpunk 2077.” In the weeks following the release of the title, Sony and Microsoft have offered refunds to players due to bugs and poor performance on older consoles.
