Firaxis Games has confirmed that the next game in the Sid Meier’s Civilization series is in the works. At the same time, it was announced that Steve Martin and Jake Solomon had left the company.
Firaxis Games has unexpectedly announced that another part of the Sid Meier Civilization Series it is in development. The information was transmitted in a publication in Blood.
Unfortunately, other than confirming the start of construction, nothing more has been said about the new civilization. The information itself is unlikely to surprise fans. After all, the sixth game in the series was released over six years ago, and that’s the number of years that separates it from the release of the previous one.
But does Firaxis Games really have nothing else for us? Confirmation of the start (or continuation) of work on the next Civilization pleased fans of the series, however, it is surprising that it was announced so laconically.
It is hoped that we will receive more important announcements in the near future, but that seems doubtful, since today’s announcement does not mention it.
Maybe the ad came out by chance. Because although Civilization was not mentioned much more, the developers had more important information.
In either case, reasons for leaving were not given, although developer news suggests the parting happened in a positive environment.
A press release from 2K Games (via Business Wire) reported that Heather Hanzen has been named head of the studio and that Firaxis is ready to enter a “new era of creation.” It has also been confirmed that Ed Beach, a more than 15-year veteran of the Civilization series, will also oversee work on the series’ seventh installment as creative director.

Passionate about video games (and others) for years, he completed an MBA in linguistics, defending a thesis on games. He started his adventure with GlobeLiveMedia in 2015, writing in the editorial department, then also covering movies and oh, horror! – technology (also a contributor to the Games Encyclopedia). He started with platform games, which he still loves (including metroidvania), but he also likes card games (including “analog” games), fighting games, soul games and virtually any other kind of game. Don’t ask about the graphics: after a few hours of exposure, you can revel in pixelated game characters reminiscent of the days of the Game Boy era (if not older).
