Firaxis announces the release date for the Civ 6 DLC Rulers of England as the final part of the Civilization 6 Leader Pass aims to complete the 4X strategy game in March. The upcoming expansion is the sixth and final of the Leader Pass mini-packs and introduces two new leaders for England as well as another for Norway.
The pack includes Queen Elizabeth I of England, a Varangian variant for Harald Hardrada of Norway, and an Age of Steam variant for Queen Victoria of England. Elizabeth’s return places her once again on an elusive list of figures who have featured as leaders in every Civilization game thus far, alongside Alexander the Great, Mahatma Gandhi, Genghis Khan, Montezuma and Shaka Zulu. .
Elizabeth’s specialties likely reflect her past appearances, where she employs a stealthy and cautious approach that relies on thrift and the strength of the English Navy to push herself towards diplomatic success. She usually shows a preference for befriending and protecting neighboring city-states, but is often reluctant to ally herself with entire other nations.
As leader variants that already exist in Civilization 6, Victoria and Harald are likely to offer a distinctive twist to their default perks. The standard form of Harald focuses primarily on naval power, so a “Varangian” variant is likely to focus much more on ground forces, perhaps with cheaper recruitment costs to reflect the elite nature of the Varangian Guard.
Another quintessentially naval leader, Queen Victoria’s “Steam Age” variant likely focuses more on the great expansion of the Industrial Revolution in England and her empire. This means we’ll likely see options to increase production with steam upgrades, although we may also see special steam ships at sea.
The release date for Civ 6 Rulers of England is March 29. As part of the Leader Pass, the Rulers of England DLC is free to all owners of Civilization 6 Anthology Edition. It will also be delivered to anyone who has already purchased all of the content included in the Anthology Edition on a standalone basis. We currently don’t know anything else planned for Civ 6, although Firaxis recently confirmed that Civ 7 is in development.
