The Resident Evil saga has been trying for many years to add a dose of multiplayer to its genome. After Outbreak, Operation Raccoon City, Umbrella Corps and more recently Project Resistance, Capcom still does not seem to have found the miracle formula to convince the millions of fans of the saga. To be sure, Resident Evil and multiplayer modes have rarely managed to come together. It is therefore with some astonishment that we learned of the existence of this RE: Verse, during a showcase organized by the Japanese firm on January 21, 2021.
What would a birthday be without a little surprise that came out of nowhere between two bites of Vacherin? To mark the 25th anniversary of the Resident Evil franchise, Tsuyoshi Kanda, producer on Resident Evil Village, came to present RE: Verse, a multiplayer arena shooter that brings together the heroes – but also the villains – of the series. The arenas will have up to 6 players, and the deathmatch will only last 5 minutes. The originality of the software is that when a hero is eliminated, he turns into a biological weapon. The more virus capsules a competitor collects, the more powerful his transformation. Killing your assassin as a biological weapon is worth more points. Simple isn’t it?
On the video, we therefore see different heroes and villains of the saga shoot each other in the corridors of the Raccoon City police station, all with colorful graphics for a rendering flirting with Cel Shading. We should be able to play as Leon S. Kennedy, Claire Redfield, Jill Valentine, Chris Redfield, the Nemesis, Hunk, Ada Wong or even Jack Baker in order to bitch our neighbor. The good news is that the game will be offered for free to all Resident Evil Village buyers.
