For fans of the Harry Potter books and films, Quidditch is one of the most exciting events to take place in the wizarding world. Although there are many magical games and things to see throughout history, this premier sport for witches and wizards is always in the limelight. That being said, with players joining Hogwarts for the first time as fifth year students at Hogwarts Legacy, can you play Quidditch?
Is Quidditch part of Hogwarts’ heritage?
Unfortunately for wizarding sports fans, Quidditch cannot be played at Hogwarts Legacy. Although you can ride a broomstick and visit the Quidditch arena on the grounds surrounding the castle, there is no secondary mode to enjoy the game. The in-universe explanation is that the current Headmaster of Hogwarts, Professor Phineas Nigellus Black, has canceled the current year’s Quidditch season at Hogwarts due to an unfortunate accident the previous year. When he makes this announcement during the sorting ceremony, the students are unsurprisingly disappointed and demand that they focus on their studies.
Although Hogwarts Legacy is not Quidditch compatible, and probably never will be, there was a time during development where the team worked to keep the sport in mind, with all positions fully playable, depending on what you wanted to try. Unfortunately, for some reason the feature was cut. Maybe they couldn’t make it work the way they wanted, but the most likely reason is the high cost of business which forces them to focus on other parts of the game.
Hopefully we can get a new Quidditch game or sequel to Hogwarts Legacy that will allow us to play Quidditch at some point in the future. This is very unlikely to happen with this current game.
