Just over two months have passed since the launch of The Callisto Protocol and Striking Distance studio just released a new challenge for players as the new game patch adds the hard hardcore. This new update also added the New Game + Hardcore mode, designed for those who really mastered the Callisto protocol in its new difficulty.
On February 7, The Callisto Protocol players received Title Update 3.02. with which the Hardcore mode has been added with the new New hardcore game+, which offers another way to play this experience in its maximum difficulty. The update also added some general improvements and improved Callisto Protocol performance on Steam Deck and PC.
In The Callisto Protocol’s Hardcore mode ammo, health and credits are harder to come by, and not all Biophages drop loot; increases the damage inflicted by enemies, as well as their mutation speed; Stun Baton damage and contraband value decreased; 3 new achievements/trophies are added to the hunt. Hardcore New Game+ mode can only be obtained by beating the main game in Hardcore mode.
“It’s in the name, hardcore mode is just hardcore», explains the creative director of The Callisto Protocol, Ben Walker, in a post on the Xbox page. “We designed Callisto Protocol to be challenging, and with this new mode, we’re giving fans of truly brutal gameplay a new level to master,” Walker says of the new difficulty coming to the game.
Ben Walker says that Striking Distance planned a Hardcore mode for The Callisto Protocol, but the concept was validated when they noticed the large number of players finishing the game on maximum difficulty. “We didn’t hold back here, so we think this will provide a hardcore challenge for our hardcore players,” Walker explained.
The game director says that many Striking Distance employees have completed the game on Hardcore mode, but he still gets sweaty hands in the tougher encounters. “Finishing it still feels like an accomplishment,” Walkers says.
