The headlines this morning focused on the release of Super Mario Bros.: The Movie, but it looks like someone had other plans to report that Sony has a new handheld console in development, codenamed QLite.
That’s right, Insider Gaming just reported (and we already know that their sources are always well verified) that on Christmas of 2024 we will have new PlayStation ecosystem hardware. This is a handheld console that would be intended for playing PS5 titles remotely (something like Nintendo Switch’s handheld mode). The report stresses that it is not a model focused on cloud gaming, but related to the system remote gamea feature that Sony is going to place much more emphasis on and has been promoting over the past few weeks.
Regarding its design and characteristics, the report only refers to the first prototypes and its final appearance may change, but for the moment it looks like a Dualsense with a eight-inch touch screen in the center and adaptive triggers for haptic feedback and the rest of the buttons we expect from a laptop, such as volume control, power, dual stick, audio input.
It’s still too early to speculate on dates or other possibilities that this new foray into Sony’s portable market might offer (we still remember the maligned PS Vita), but according to Jeff Grubb, we’ll have more details. on this and two other hardware PlayStation devices when the presumable arrives Playstation Showcase and the “second phase” of PlayStation 5.
