Atomic Heart is coming to Xbox Game Pass tomorrow, February 21, and outlets are now posting reviews, preview images, and more. on the Web. Among those are some early tests of the Xbox Series S version of the game, which despite aiming for 60FPS performance, looks a bit mixed so far.
While The Xbox Tester seems impressed with its first look at the game, the more technical analysis above shows a few cracks in Atomic Heart’s ’60FPS’ armor. To sum up the review video, the game seems to achieve ample 60 FPS in the early underground sections and outside of intense combat, but once things get going outwe see drops to around 45FPS quite regularly.
Now the good news here is that playing the game ourselves from start to finish we can tell that the vast majority of the story campaign takes place in these underground facilities so the drops shouldn’t have a massive effect on players. through the main story. However, if you explore the world of Atomic Heart at a slower pace, you might come across some areas of the game that are underperforming on the Series S.
It’s worth noting that a VRR display should help a bit with these sorts of FPS drops – we used one for our review while playing on Xbox Series X and didn’t notice much of an issue beyond odd stuttering. here and there.
Anyway, the Xbox Series S version is a little wonky judging by this first video. Still, we wouldn’t let that put you off too much given how Atomic Heart’s roughly 15-hour story campaign plays out.
Will you dive into it on day one? Or are you going to wait for a patch? Leave your thoughts below.
