Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD on Steam will still be playable. In question, too imprecise communication from Ubisoft.

The owners of Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD on Steam will not lose access to their game as of September 1st. Ubisoft clarified the situation after a warning on Valve’s store hinted that the game would no longer be playable after that date. “Current owners of these games will still be able to access, play or redownload them,” a company spokesperson told Eurogamer.

Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD on Steam will still be playable

This confusion around Liberation HD comes from an announcement made a few days ago by Ubisoft. In a move to free up resources for these newer and more popular titles, the company said it planned to end online service support for no less than 15 games, including Liberation HD. As a result of this statement, online features and downloadable content would become unavailable in most affected games. That being said, the only game that will be completely unplayable, according to Ubisoft, is Spade Junkies, due to its multiplayer-only nature.

In question, too imprecise communication from Ubisoft

Many thought that Ubisoft had planned to go even further when a Twitter user by the pseudonym of Nors3 shared a screenshot of the Liberation HD Steam page: “Please note that this title will not be accessible after September 1, 2022”, could we read in particular. The warning then led many players to accuse Ubisoft of very bad practices.

The studio told Eurogamer that it is currently working with Valve and other similar platform owners to provide more specific information as to the future of the 15 games affected by this decision: “It has always been our intention to do everything we can to allow these games to remain available in the best conditions for players, and that is what we are trying to do today”, declared the company.
