Zelda Tears of the Kingdom’s fusion ability lets you create fusion weapons, as revealed in the game’s trailer, by mixing items to achieve different results and creating fused gear that’s better than the unfused model. This can result in everything from increased damage, longer range, targeted shots, explosive items, and greater durability. Below, we’ll go over everything we know about Zelda Tears of the Kingdom’s new fusion ability, including the fusions revealed and their effects.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Fusion Ability Explained

Zelda Tears of the Kingdom’s fusion ability allows players to fuse items and weapons together in “fusions” that combine traits from both. While there are many examples available, these broader trends have so far been revealed in marketing materials:
- Weapon/item fusions: Fuse a weapon with a loose item that you wouldn’t normally be able to carry with you. For example, fusing a stick with a rock greatly increases its damage and durability.
- Weapon/weapon fusions: Merge two weapons to combine elements of both. The gameplay trailer showed off a Long Stick/Farmer’s Pitchfork fusion that had much greater range on either weapon.
- Weapon/Material Fusions: Fuse a weapon with an item or material in your inventory that would normally be used for cooking, elixir making, or something similar. Fusing an arrow with White Chuchu Jelly caused it to explode with freeze damage, while a Keese Eyeball on an arrow gave it search power.

Nintendo revealed many fused weapon combinations in Tears of the Kingdom, but suggested that these were only a small percentage of what can be created with the Fuse ability. Here are the merges we’ve seen so far and what they’ve been confirmed to be (if those merges have other properties, we haven’t seen them yet):
- Tree branch + Rock: Increased damage and durability.
- Long pole + farmer’s fork: Increased damage and range
- Arrow + Korok’s Sling: Added damage increase and wind effect (unconfirmed)
- Arrow + white nipple gelatin: Increased damage and ice shatter damage.
- Flecha + Keese eyeball: Increased damage and seek effect.
- Shield + Mushroom: Creates a darkening smokescreen after a block attack (destroys Puffshroom)
- Wooden stick + log: Increased damage and range
- Old Wood + Rock Shield: increased damage
How to Use Fusion Ability and Create Fusion Weapons
The Fuse ability should not be confused with Ultrahand, an ability used to create structures and vehicles. To use the Fusion ability to create fusions, players appear to activate it and then highlight an object in the world around them or in their menu. They can then choose to fuse it with a melee weapon, shield, or arrow they are currently equipped with.
It’s unclear at the time of this writing if there’s a way to disable the items and return them to their original state, or if there will be any significant downsides to the merge. we have seen mergers romper or revert to normal depending on usage (like the Puffshroom/Shield destroying the Puffshroom after blocking an attack), but it’s unlikely that all weapons and combos work this way.
