The second season of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 may have suffered a big delay, but it hopes to redeem itself by offering a host of new game modes. That being said, these modes may not be considered new for some , as the complete collection has gained popularity in previous Call of Duty titles. Most even offer a unique twist, tricking soldiers into only using throwing knives or earning them kills with over a dozen different weapons. Here are all the modes that will be releasing in Modern Warfare 2 Season 2.

What game modes are coming to MW2 in Season 2?

In total, there are six game modes targeting Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer in Season 2, but not all of them at once. Three fan favorites such as Grind and Infected will debut once the season begins, while the rest of the batch are expected to arrive with their respective Reloaded update. You can find all of the Season 2 game modes below, organized by release date.

Grind (available at launch)

Last appearing in Modern Warfare in 2019, Grind is a spinoff of the Kill Confirmed mode, which tasks two teams of six with capturing dog tags around maps. However, dog tag points are not earned instantly, as each team must store them in their respective banks for their points to count. Additionally, those who place multiple beacons in their bank will receive point bonuses.

Gun Game (available at launch)

It’s no surprise that Gun Game achieves its fourth straight Call of Duty title. The mode is based on the Free-For-All ruleset, requiring players to work alone to achieve the most kills at the end of a match. However, instead of having loadouts, each shooter must earn kills with the rotation of 18 weapons offered to them. More intriguingly, those using melee attacks will knock their opponent back by pulling out a spinning weapon.

Infected (available at launch)

Infected consists of 18-player lobbies where those marked as “survivors” must avoid being eliminated by the knife-wielding infected team. Players killed by the infected will join the team in an effort to defeat the rest of the survivors. If one or more survivors manage to exceed their five-minute countdown, they will be crowned the winner of the match.

All or Nothing (coming later in the season)

Doubles as another fun Free-For-All spin-off, All or Nothing revolves around lone soldiers with nothing but throwing knives and a gun who need to get 20 kills. However, since the gun will have no ammo at the start of matches, players must get the Scavenger perk to pick up extra bullets. More importantly, participants who can kill multiple times will receive additional buffs later in matches.

Drop Zone (coming later in the season)

Drop Zone sees two teams constantly battling for mobile space on the maps to earn points. While heavily inspired by the Hardpoint game mode, its uniqueness comes from dropping care packages onto a moving space once a team has held it down for at least 15 seconds. While 20 points are awarded every second to the team occupying this slot, a total of 7,500 points will be needed to win the game.

One in the Chamber (coming later in the season)

Like All or Nothing, One in the Chamber gives lone soldiers a gun but with only one bullet in its chamber. Luckily, each kill rewards an extra bullet, though players still need to keep their guard up. Each One in Chamber Operator only has three respawns to work with, making for exciting and fast-paced matches.
